Where classic beauty meets modern safety.
A restomod is an industry term for a restoration modernization of a vehicle. It is more of an homage to the original design, with smarter features to improve on these once great kings of the road. Typically, a restomod will keep the majority of the aesthetics to match the appearance of the automobile being restored, that is until you dig deeper. Restomods replace entire engines, frames, brakes, and add modern electronics including safety features, and more quality of life upgrades that did not exist when the car was first built.
Now that we know more about the standard restomod, let’s look into the very real option of an “Electro Restomod”. We will look into past projects, then let you know why this may be the best option for your restorative endeavors.
1947 Ford Pickup
Normally when you see a pre-greaser era pickup truck, you would hear it before you would see it, and smell it as it drives past. The solid, stocky body has grown to be more of a testament to a bygone era of gas-guzzling, heavy frames, blind spots, and bumpy suspension. Well, the owner of Left Coast Industries, Gadget, decided that he wanted to save this beauty from its predetermined fate. After finding a usable shell, he began to rebuild the vehicle from the inside out starting with a custom-made frame. The frame is much more durable and crash-resistant than the stock vehicle, and also contains the batteries for the vehicle in a housing attached to the undercarriage. Now, this pickup has a trunk where the engine once cranked.
The efficiency has also gotten a huge improvement, as you can go up to 300 miles per charge with the electronic motor. In a pickup, the suspension is paramount. Gadget refitted this Ford with an air suspension system, with height sensors to monitor weight issues, making it easy to haul with minimal change to the drive experience.
Naturally, this vehicle lacked many electronic features we would come to know as standard, which is why it was fully fitted with custom tech. The door handles were shaved off, providing keyless entry. The headlights were changed to LEDs, being more efficient yet not blinding other vehicles or pedestrians. Recently, the camera-based safety features used in automobiles have been an incredible addition to our way of life, and thus, this beauty from 1947 received a backup camera, two side blind-spot cameras, with a 7-inch LCD screen for each. All of these features lay hidden to the undiscerning eye, truly the ideal for a restomod.
The future, your car, and you.
As we move forward, the technology available to create smarter (both in terms of quality of life and in sustainability) vehicles is much more possible. Our electro restomods are the perfect way to bring longevity and safety both to you and your prized automotive. We update the vehicle to have 4 wheel disk brakes, 4 wheel independent suspension, power steering, a custom frame, and an electric drive train.
Any modern safety features can absolutely be implemented, from sensors and cameras to smart interfaces and electronics. Not only can we do everything listed in the above example, but anything you can think of that would make it best for your tastes.
